Charlotte Mbewu

Principal Officer Discovery Health Medical Scheme

Charlotte Mbewu is the Principal Officer of Discovery Health Medical Scheme, a position she had held since 1 July 2020, having served in an acting capacity since 1 December 2019. Prior to this, she was the Chief Financial Officer of DHMS having joined from another large medical scheme. Charlotte has experience in both the medical scheme industry and investment management industry, having previously worked for an investment management company.

Charlotte is a chartered accountant by profession having obtained her BCom degree from Rhodes University prior to gaining an Honours degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.  She holds various postgraduate and management qualifications from both local and international institutions. Charlotte is a member of the SAICA Medical Schemes Project Committee. She also serves as a member of the Council of Management of the International Federation of Health Plans.  She has in the past served on a number of Boards and Board Committees including pension funds and an asset manager. Currently, she is a member of the Discovery Health Medical Scheme’s Risk and Product Committees.
